The Perfect Pair

Lately I have been mesmerised by antique jewellery…
Victorian, Belle Époque, Art Nouveau.
The more romantic, the better.

Even though I have inherited a few beautiful pieces,
and some have been gifted to me…
I had never actually bought anything for myself.

I never thought I could spend that much money on myself…
Just because I found something beautiful.

There were always more practical things to spend on or invest in.

But when I saw this delicate brooch,
I knew I didn’t want to let her go.

I knew I wanted her to become our family’s heirloom
that will be cherished by my children and next generations to come.

So I purchased it.
And I couldn’t stop smiling.

A few days later I decided to find her an appropriate box.
Something from the same era that she was born into.

But when I went online and searched for it, nothing really spoke to me.
Those weren’t the boxes for her.

I let the search go and the day went on as usual.
Only on this day, I had an errand to attend to a little further away from my home.

The day was lovely. Perfect for a walk.
And that’s what I did…
Until I remembered that right next to the place I needed to go to,
was a little antique shop.

As soon as I entered the shop… I saw it.
A dark blue jewellery box.
Same colour as the dress I was wearing.

A single one that they had…
In the whole shop. And it was from the era of my brooch.

A beautiful match.
I have no idea how coincidences or synchronicities like this happen.

But every time they do, they fill me with surprise and gratitude.
They remind me that I am exactly where I need to be.

A little blue box was waiting for me.
And I was there to take her home.
How amazing is that?!

With love,
E.

My Belle Époque brooch and her little blue box.
